Welcome! I’m Alexis, a Computer Science graduate (Bsc) from EPFL, currently pursuing my master’s degree in Computer Science (MSCS) at Carnegie Mellon University.

My primary interest lies at the intersection of networking and database systems, with a growing focus on their applications in AI. I’m exploring how systems can more efficiently move and process large-scale data.

To advance these interests, I’m fortunate to be advised by Prof. Justine Sherry and Prof. Zili Meng, with whom I’ve been working on low-latency networked applications. I’ve also contributed to database optimizer research under the guidance of Prof. Andy Pavlo.

Complementing my academic work, I recently interned as a software engineer at SingleStore. There, I contributed to enhancing their embedding infrastructure, streamlining the data pipeline between their relational database and vector storage systems.

I enjoy sharing knowledge in my field. At CMU, I served as a TA for 15-445 Database Systems with Prof. Jignesh Patel, and for 15-441 Computer Networks with Prof. Peter Steenkiste. Previously at EPFL, I was a TA for several courses spanning systems, theory, and cryptography.

As a side hustle, I’ve been involved in the Ethereum community since 2016, with a focus on decentralized finance and its potential to create a more equitable and secure financial system. In 2021, I co-founded Chainlabs, which hosts Ethereum validator nodes and is developing the CryptoCookies game.

In my spare time, I enjoy épée fencing, playing chess and poker with friends, and occasionally immersing myself in video games. Whenever I feel satured with CS, I love going on long hikes outdoors to relax.

I was born and raised in northern Belgium but moved to southern Switzerland when I was 10 years old, where I completed my high school and undergraduate studies. Today, I am excited to broaden my horizons in the USA.
